Is the News Killing Your Creativity? Break Free and Get Creative Instead.

In our fast-paced world, constant news can overwhelm and drain creativity. For artists, crafters, or simply the curious, it's crucial to take time to reconnect with your creative self. These are some of my thoughts on how to reignite that spark!

The Impact of News on Creativity

The news, with its constant negativity and overwhelming information, can stifle creativity by causing anxiety about world events and leaving little room for imaginative thoughts.

Overindulging shortens attention spans, making it hard to prioritize creativity. Amid global turmoil, we often see creativity as a luxury, yet connecting with ourselves is essential for grounding.

Finding Your Creative Space

To combat the influence of news, create a dedicated artistic space. It can be a cozy living room corner or a peaceful backyard spot. Make it your sanctuary with inspiring items like books, art supplies, or favorite projects.

Introduce vivid, attention-grabbing artwork to brighten your space and ignite creativity. A lively piece in blue and green can evoke the calmness of nature, fostering innovation and transforming your area into a sanctuary away from chaos.

Setting Boundaries with News Consumption

Setting boundaries for social media use can boost focus and creativity. Allocate specific times for checking platforms, then log off. Engage in creative activities like painting, writing, or playing an instrument to clear your mind and inspire new ideas.

Participating in hands-on activities is an excellent way to immerse yourself in a different realm, allowing your mind to relax and your creativity to flourish. Consider enrolling in one of my fused-glass classes this spring. It's the perfect remedy for the news-induced blues.

Embracing Nature and Unplugging

Immersing yourself in nature revitalizes creativity, enhancing problem-solving abilities. Taking a stroll in a park, wandering through a forest, or going to the beach can invigorate your mind and ignite your imagination.

Picture all the inspiration surrounding you in the great outdoors. Nature influences art profoundly—consider how the colors of autumn leaves might inspire a palette for your next art project. You might even draw sketches of natural patterns that could translate into your work.

Doodling and Your Creative Breakthrough

Embracing the simple act of doodling can lead to remarkable bursts of creativity. Grab a sketchbook and some colored pencils, and let your imagination flow. Keep the pressure off—the goal is not to create a masterpiece, but to enjoy expressing your free thoughts.

Incorporating doodling into your routine can yield benefits, such as inspiring unique designs that reflect your style, transforming simple sketches into beautiful, functional art pieces.

Surrounding Yourself with Creativity

Enhance your creativity by connecting with fellow creatives. Join local crafting groups or enroll in classes like fused glass art to stay motivated with like-minded individuals.

Nurturing Your Creative Journey

Don't let news noise smother your creativity. Create an inspiring environment by finding a dedicated space, setting news boundaries, and immersing in nature to enhance your imagination!

Creativity should bring joy, not pressure. Reclaim your creative time and space to find inspiration in peaceful moments away from the hustle. Break free from the news and let your imagination soar!

You've made it to the end of this article, and I hope I have inspired you to take the next step towards creativity and positive manifestations!

THE MAKING OF "DAWN'S EARLY LIGHT"

During the pandemic, I created "Dawn's Early Light" for the Community Foundation of San Benito County's lobby in Hollister. It took a year to complete, uplifting both me and the building's visitors and employees, greatly benefiting our mental health. Installed in 2021, Hollister, CA.
